
Coast Unified School District serves the student
population of the unincorporated coastal communities of Cambria, San Simeon
and Harmony. The neighboring community of Cayucos has one elementary feeder
school whose students matriculate into the district's high school.
Coast Unified School District has four schools: Cambria Grammar School,
grades K-5; Santa Lucia School, grades 6-8; Coast Union High School, grades
9-12; and Leffingwell Continuation High School, grades 10-12. Total ADA for
the district, based on 1999 CBEDS data, is 988.
Coast Unified School District strives to provide a learning environment
for its students that values individual differences and promotes a
well-rounded academic program, including music and fine arts. Counseling and
student support services are offered to students at every level.
Standardized test scores are generally above average and a high percentage
of graduates attend colleges and universities. Emphasis is placed on
teaching basic skills as well as developing critical thinking skills,
problem solving skills, aesthetic appreciation, curiosity, and creativity
and interpersonal competence.
